2. ADVANTAGES AND APPLICATIONS
1.316L is a molybdenum-containing stainless steel. Because of the molybdenum in the steel, its overall performance is better than that of 310 and 304 stainless steels. At high temperature, when the concentration of sulfuric acid is lower than 15% or higher than 85%, 316L stainless steel is widely used. 316L stainless steel also has good chloride corrosion resistance, so it is usually used in marine environment.
Most of the existing 316L in the market are produced according to American standard. For cost reasons, steel mills generally limit the Ni content of products as low as possible. According to American standard, the Ni content of 316L is 10 ~ 14%, while that of Japanese standard is 12 ~ 15%. According to the minimum standard, there is a 2% difference in Ni content between American standard and Japanese standard, which is still quite huge in price. Therefore, customers still need to see clearly whether the products refer to ASTM or JIS standard when purchasing 316L products.
